A MAN from Malmesbury has been fined after admitting to leaving human excrement and threatening drawings of a decapitated and castrated police officer at a police station.

Barry Norris (39) of High Street, Malmesbury, pleaded guilty today before Chippenham magistrates to two offences of using threatening words and behaviour to cause harassment, alarm and distress, contrary to the Public Order Act 1986.

He was fined £230 for his offences.

The court heard how Norris left human excrement and a note at the door of Malmesbury Police Station on September 22 and hand drawn pictures of police officers on October 16.

Prosecuting, Michelle Hewitt, said: “Staff have seen that and been alarmed to find that there.

“Staff found an envelope pinned to the door of Malmesbury Police Station and those envelopes have hand drawn pictures of police officers on them.”

One of the images depicted a police officer being run over with severed arms and legs and a second image a decapitated and castrated police officer, she told magistrates.

The court heard how Norris admitted the offence and said he was acting in retaliation for an arrest which saw him spend three days in custody.

Defending, Terry McCarthy, said that the stigma of the arrest stayed with Norris.
“It’s something he regrets. He acts on impulse,” Mr McCarthy added.

Norris apologised in court before being fined by magistrates.

Magistrate Lady Maria Pitt described the offences as “particularly distasteful” which did put people in fear but acknowledged Norris’s apology and regret.

Norris, who pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity, was fined £20 and told to pay a £20 victim surcharge, costs of £40 and a court charge of £150.
