THE bodies of six hares were found dumped in a ditch in Malmesbury last week as a result of suspected hare coursing.
The animals were found in an area commonly used as a dumping ground for illegal hare coursers.
The incident is being investigated by the Wiltshire Police Rural Crime Unit as the act of hare coursing has been illegal in the UK since 2005, after the Hunting Act was passed by Parliament in 2004.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We can confirm that we received a call around 11.40am on Wednesday, October 7, from a member of the public saying that she had found six hare carcasses lying in a ditch on Common Road.
“Our investigations are on-going at this time.”
