ANTIQUES lovers in Malmesbury were treated to a valuation day with Thomas Plant of Flog It! fame this week.

The star from the popular BBC One show was at The Old Bell Hotel on Thursday (8) valuing a range of items brought in by residents.

He gave an evening talk about his life and the programs he’s worked on, including the hit day time show Bargain Hunt.

“We have seen some extraordinary things today,” he said.

“We’ve seen some beautiful jewelled watches, wonderful glass, and fabulous pieces of ceramics; it’s been a whole plethora of interesting things.

“We’ve also been non-stop. We had ten minutes to wolf down some lunch and there were still people waiting.”

When asked if he’d visited Malmesbury before he said: “I’m from Bristol, so would have been thought and stopped but never spent this much time here.

“It’s such a nice place I think I might come back.”

All proceeds from the event went to HEALS of Malmesbury, which will go towards supporting their work with disadvantaged and vulnerable in the local community.

Alison Cross-Jones, volunteer manager at HEALS was pleased with how the day went.

“The day was fantastic and lots of interesting finds were found in Malmesbury,” she said.

“Everyone enjoyed themselves and Thomas is hoping that as a result of his trip, the welcome he received and the history of Malmesbury, he can persuade The Antiques Road Trip to feature Malmesbury in their programme.

“HEALS was delighted that Thomas decided to support us and we'd like to thank him, Simon and his team at The Old Bell.

“We’d also like to thank Talyersons Syrups for their fabulous hamper for the raffle, Fiona Scott for her support and everyone else who supported this event, which raised on the day and night £641.50 for HEALS. An outstanding result.”
