FUNDRAISERS behind ambitious plans for a new community arts centre in Tetbury have produced a stunning wall calendar for 2016.

The calendar showcases retailers, craftspeople and venues in the town, with well-crafted shots taken by acclaimed Tetbury photographer Colin Peacock.

Proceeds will help fund the conversion of the town's long-disused Goods Shed which the models and their friends hope to turn into a vibrant new arts centre.

The project’s backers, Tetbury Rail Lands Regeneration Trust and Tetbury Town Council, hope to begin building work next year. The shed's interior and exterior provide the backdrop to many of the calendar images, creating a lasting reminder of its current state, 50 years after the closure of the branch line to Tetbury.

A wartime photoshoot in Tetbury by Norman Parkinson for Vogue provided the inspiration for the new calendar’s 1940s 'railwayana' look. Colin Peacock and the project team used memorabilia loaned by The Wilson, Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, and the Swindon and Cricklade Railway to recreate the theme.

Well-known Tetbury businesses featured in the calendar include fashion retailers Anna Lizzio, Overider and Tetbury Tailor; interior designers Felbrigg Design; beauty products from Mayfair and Grace; Hobbs House Bakery; the Royal Oak Inn; wine specialist Vinotopia; Indian goods emporium Artique; leatherworkers Michael and MacGregor, and jeweller Martin White.

Tetbury Town Council’s Goods Shed project team feature beside a large-scale model of the goods shed inside the real shed. The cover photo shows the fundraising volunteers who have staged a series of events, shows, concerts and exhibitions in the run-down building over the last two years, bringing the arts centre plan back to life.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has got behind the calendar, especially the businesses and the organisations who loaned memorabilia,” said Karen Quaddy, who coordinated the production for the Rail Lands Trust.

“Colin’s photographs really capture the character of each individual business. They give Tetbury its distinctive flavour, which is why we’ve called the calendar ‘A Taste of Tetbury’. It’s a brilliant showcase for the town.”

The calendar goes on sale on November 1, priced £9.99.

It will be available from the featured retailers and businesses and Tetbury Tourist Information Centre; Tetbury Town Council offices and the Yellow Lighted Bookshop. For more information, photos and details of online ordering, visit www.shed-arts.co.uk.
