ONE of the most vivid memories for many children in Britain is the annual bonfire and fireworks night, and thanks to a small few, Malmesbury will still be holding its own event this year.

The town’s display was looking likely to be cancelled for the first time in years, and hung in the balance until early this week.

The Standard reported on the struggle organiser Keith Maslin was having in putting the event together due to dwindling numbers, but the response from the community has been fantastic.

Members of the town fire service got involved to help get the much needed liability insurance the event required, and after a nervous few weeks, the display was saved.

Malmesbury residents are fiercely proud of their town and the annual November tradition, so weren’t going to let the night turn into a damp squib.

It’s yet another reason for residents to be proud of the community they live in. This is not just fantastic news for residents but also businesses in the town, which will benefit from the trade the night brings.

A pub dinner, pint and a stoked fire are the perfect remedy for getting out of the cold after an enthralling display of light, colour and sound.

After all the hard work that has gone into getting the night back on track by the new team of organisers, now it’s time to start crossing fingers for good weather to ensure it all goes off with a bang.
