A RESIDENT in Malmesbury is calling for improvements to be made to a dangerous junction outside her house that saw two car crashes in two days last week.

Elaine Godley, who lives on Burton Hill, says the junction coming out of her road is a regular spot for crashes and cites changes to speed limits in the area as the cause.

“We’ve had a few near misses ourselves turning right out of our road,” said Elaine.

“They come speeding round the corner after being slow in a 30mph section.

“Recently one of my housemates pulled out and a youngster came round the corner and hit him.

“It’s not a very clear bend, so drivers coming from Chippenham come from doing 30mph into a 40 zone and start speeding.

“Often we have to turn left and go down to roundabout just because we don’t feel safe turning right.

“Seven houses have to drive out of the driveway so there are cars coming out of it regularly every day.”

Elaine cites the introduction of the 40mph section just before her junction as the cause for the danger and suggests there are simple alternatives that can be looked at.

“Extending the 40mph so it starts before the Seagry turn off would be one solution,” said Elaine.

“Or alternatively you could make it 30mph all the way alongside the stretch of road or at least put in a speed camera.”

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “Where residents have safety concerns about specific sections of road, we would ask in the first instance that they raise their concerns via their local area board.”
