IN response to criticism that there was too much litter in the South Cerney area CDC ordered a litter pick earlier this month.

Workers from CDC's waste provided Ubico collected 15 bags of litter from around the village after pensioner Peter Chadwick complained to the Standard about the amount of rubbish dumped on grass verges along the Spine Road near South Cerney.

Cabinet Member for Health, Environment and Communities, Sue Coakley, said: “It’s in everyone’s interests to combat litter in this beautiful part of the country. That is why we would appreciate it very much if residents could report littering of the countryside directly to the council.

“I must add that we are always very pleased when volunteers come forward to carry out litter picks in their neighbourhoods. We can supply bags, pickers, gloves and high visibility jackets. We also can arrange for special collections of large numbers of filled bags. Otherwise we can provide stickers so that filled bags presented for collection alongside volunteers’ normal waste will be picked up on their collection day.”
