WILTSHIRE police have named the two men who died in a four-car crash on the A361 near Lechlade on Friday.

Oliver Lee Williams, 23, from Lechlade, was driving a red Ford Fiesta and John Barnes, 76, from Fairford, was driving a silver Ford Fusion when they collided at around 9.30pm.

Both drivers died at the scene. Their families have been informed.

A Wiltshire police spokesman said: "A post mortem examination will now be carried out and a file will be prepared for H M Coroner for Wiltshire.

"Our thoughts are with the families and friends of Mr Williams and Mr Barnes at this very sad time."

The incident at Upper Inglesham began with a minor collision between Mr Williams and the driver of a Honda s2000.

Things quickly escalated when two more cars, Mr Barnes’ Ford Fusion and a Citroen AX, piled into the accident.

The Citroen AX sustained only minor damage in the four car collision.

Police attended the scene and shut the road for seven hours while they carried out investigations.

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police: "At 9.36pm on Friday a four vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the A361 near Upper Inglesham in Wiltshire.

"Involved were a Ford Fiesta in red, a silver Ford Fusion, a silver Honda s2000 and a Citroen AX.

"Initially a minor collision occurred between the Ford Fiesta and the silver Honda.

"A head on collision then occurred between the red Ford Fiesta and the silver Ford Fusion.

"The Citroen AX sustained minor damage. The driver of the Ford Fiesta and the Ford Fusion were pronounced deceased at the scene. The road was closed for seven hours.

"Police are requesting any person who may have witnessed the collision or the driving of any of the vehicles around the time to contact PC Catus at the Tri-Force Roads Policing Unit."
