CAREER advisors these days say the quickest way up the career ladder is to change jobs every year or two but Cirencester solicitor Simon Logie would not agree.

Mr Logie celebrated his 50th anniversary with partnership Sewell, Mullings and Logie on Tuesday.

He joined the firm on May 2, 1957 as an articled clerk at the age of 20 after doing two years of national service.

His father Ormonde Lodge was a partner in the firm, founded in the late 18th century, and Mr Logie was admitted as a solicitor within six years. He became a partner in 1970.

He was made president of the Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Law Society in 1996.

Mr Logie said: "Most people I have spoke to are pretty astounded that anyone would stay in the same job for 50 years.

"People say to me you can't have done' but I think I have been extremely lucky to have been able to work in this building in Cirencester all this time.

"Dealing with clients has been very enjoyable. The whole essence of the work here is the relationship I have with them.

"A lot of my friends have become clients and a lot of clients have become good friends as well.

"I used to do a lot of court work and that always threw up some interesting things.

He added: "I'm 70 now and I'm probably going to retire at the end of the year because I think 50 years is enough for anybody.

"A lot of people have to work in ghastly buildings with jobs they don't even like and it has just been the reverse for me for the last half a century."
