RESIDENTS have aired their views about a proposed 2,000 home development at Cotswold Airport.

Commercial Estates Group (CEG) has put forward proposals for the mixed-use development which could provide up to 2,000 jobs plus educational, healthcare, retail, recreational and sporting facilities on the brownfield site.

The company hopes that its proposals will be included in Cotswold District Council’s (CDC) Local Plan document, which sets out future development in the area, instead of another proposed development at Chesterton in Cirencester.

More than 630 people attended last month’s consultation, which saw CEG outline its proposals and around half of those (318) filled in feedback forms.

CEG said that 64 per cent of people said they would prefer a traditional design similar to other villages in the area and that most requested that sustainable technologies be used.

Development manager for CEG, Matthew Tunley, said: “The consultation by CDC is still ongoing and therefore we believe the timing of our submission works perfectly well alongside the planning process.

“We’ve listened to people’s views and the team is now concentrating on developing additional technical material to support our strong belief that the site has huge potential to contribute towards the continuing need for more homes in the Cotswolds and Wiltshire and should therefore be properly considered.”

CEG also said that 81 per cent of people said that developments on suitable brownfield sites should be prioritised over greenfield sites.

At the consultation, CEG also said that it received comments that the development should be a mix of affordable housing and spacious properties with extensive gardens.

Residents also said that they would like more information on infrastructure such as sewage, electricity, gas and water supplies and expressed concern about the existing poor internet connectivity in the area.

When the Standard spoke to the residents at the consultation many said not enough details on how the development would look were available.

Residents also told the paper that they feared the development would cause traffic congestion in the surrounding area.
