LONG-SERVING Tetbury star Sushi Sikara returned from India to help steer the side to the Gloucestershire County League Division Two crown with a three-wicket haul against Poulton.

The spin-bowler has represented the cricket club for 15 years and played his part in sealing a ten-wicket victory on a day of celebration for the champions.

While Sikara's was an impressive performance, the day belonged to Tetbury’s Mike Baverstock, who took four wickets for just two runs in 3.1 overs. He also scored 50 not out at the crease.

The club skipper has been outstanding all season, scoring 343 runs for the campaign, and is one of many players Tetbury have to thank for their recent success.

The pick of the batsmen, however, is top-scorer Tom Horrell, who has more than 500 runs for the season, as well as a highest score of 125.

Along with Horrell (538), James Westhead (273) is the only other Tetbury firsts batsman to have notched a century in an innings.

Sam Price has also enjoyed a good season (362), and has shown the best staying power at the crease (three not outs).

But Tetbury’s impressive bowlers also deserve a mention. Horrell has shown outstanding all-round attributes as the club’s leading wicket-taker (46), with Alex Evans taking the most maidens (35) and boasting the best economy rate (3.22).

A club statement read: “Tetbury CC were crowned champions for the second season running as they continue their assault up the GCCL Leagues.

"They picked up where they left off from 2014’s triumphant season that saw them winning the GCCL Div Three by taking the Div Two title at the first time of asking.

“This season has seen brilliant performances from everyone associated with the first XI squad.

"The Evans and Baverstock brothers have both starred with bat and ball respectively. Ryan Leather and Jamie Ponting have provided excellent cover when called upon, Leather in particular with his catching in the field.

“The likes of Ryan Walker, Mark Schumm, James Meacham and James Westhead have all contributed match-winning individual performances.

"The veteran Jiggy Sharpe has also been superb behind the stumps.

“Special credit must go to Sam Price and Tom Horrell who have both been outstanding all-rounders this year. The big hitting left-hander Price quickly led the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker stats, only for Horrell to catch him as the matches came and went.

"Both have scored big runs and taken lots of wickets that have seen the club lose only three games all year.”
