THE Bacon Theatre continues its National Theatre Live season with a live broadcast of The Beaux’ Stratagem on Thursday, September 3.

Starring Susannah Fielding and Geoffrey Streatfield, the play tells the tale of the ‘Beaux’; Mr Aimwell and Mr Archer, two charming dissolute young men who have blown their fortunes in London.

Shamed and debt-ridden they flee to Lichfield; their ‘Stratagem’ to marry for money.

Lodged at the local inn, they pose as master and servant, encountering a variety of human obstacles along the way including, a fearsome highway man, a maid on the make and a strange, turbulent priest.

But their greatest obstacle is love. When the Beaux meet their match in Dorinda and Mrs Sullen they are most at risk, for in love they might be truly discovered.

The Bacon Theatre’s Jess Waterman said: “The Beaux’ Stratagem at the National Theatre has received 4 star reviews from the broadsheets and has been described as ‘exhilarating’ and ‘exuberant’. We are thrilled to screen a live broadcast of this landmark comic piece at the Bacon.”
