Cirencester Golf Club

Charity Day

A LARGE number of Cirencester members turned out to support the captain’s charity golf day on Sunday.

Sporadic rain throughout the day failed to dampen the competitors’ spirits.

A welcome break was to be had on the 11th hole where the players were able to enjoy cream cheese and smoked salmon bagels washed down with either a refreshing glass of Pimm's or a hot drink.

Thanks go to Steve, Rita and Jasmine Maddock-Lyon for organising and manning the halfway house facility.

The top prize went to early starters John Archer, John Kilminster and Robin Rose with an incredible team score of 89 points.

Second place went to the team of Christine Park, Gerald Park and Chris Berens with a score of 87 points.

Third place was taken by Emma Brereton, Andy Brereton and Rob Simmonds (the very last team in) with 84 points, just pushing the captain’s team into fourth place and out of the prizes!

Nearest the pin on the 18th was won by Dave Gardiner.

Grateful thanks go to our generous sponsor for providing the prizes and to all those who donated to the fundraising even though they were not able to play in the event.

Although the exact sum raised has yet to be determined, the Great Western Air Ambulance will be receiving a significant donation to support their valuable work.

Puckrup Hall B 4

Cirencester B 2

THE B Team’s recent match-winning form came crashing down to earth with a bump on Saturday with a 4-2 loss on the lightning-fast greens at Puckrup Hall GC.

Captain Jonathan Wells and Mike Davis lost the opening match 2&1 but this was more than compensated by a fine win for Andrew Miles and the in-form Leighton Rees (4&2) and an impressive 5&4 success for Clive Gray and Chris Nevin.

Unfortunately, it was then all downhill. Paul Jenkins and David Michael slipped to a 4&2 loss followed by the shock defeat in the fixture as stalwart Howard Jones and Derek Stewart lost their match 8 & 7.

The misery was complete when Keith Hodgson and Steve Springthorpe limped home after losing their match 2&1.
