A CRACK team of cyclists riding 720 miles for charity have raised £6,500 – and they have not even set off yet.

Cirencester Rugby Club members Rory and Will McCarthy and Scott Brandreth are riding from Edinburgh to Cardiff to raise money for Ruck Off Cancer, the charity set up in memory of teammate Ashley Scrivens who died of cancer in 2014.

Last year the team raised £21,000 for charity and they are hoping this year will be even bigger.

Joining them on each leg of the ’Tour de Ruck’ will be dozens of friends, family and rugby players from all over the country.

Before the team set off on September 3 for their 10 day marathon they are making a big push for more donations.

They have already been helped by their sponsors STM Security who have covered much of the journeys expense and have pledged a further £1,000 for the cause.

Will McCarthy said: “The support from the community, rugby club and local businesses has been fantastic.

“We're delighted with the team effort that has gone into this years fundraising efforts and want everyone to feel part of Ruck Off Cancer.

“We've just received all our hoodies and T-shirts which, along with the wristbands, will be available to purchase should people wish to show their support.”
