A NOTE designed to spur on a man as he raced to propose to his girlfriend at the finishing line of a triathlon made a return at the couple’s wedding at the Parish Church in Cirencester.

Matthew Tibbles got down on one knee and asked Sophie Spriggs to be his wife in front of a crowd of smiling spectators at the finishing line of the Cotswold 226 in South Cerney last summer.

On that fateful day, Sophie hid a message on a piece of paper in Mathew’s running kit, which he wore on the last part of the race, that read “Last leg, I know it hurts, but keep going I know you can do it xxx.”

And Matthew decided the romantic gesture should be remembered on the couple's special day on Wednesday, August 19 so he  hid the memo in his jacket pocket, and then removed it so the pair could pose for photographs with it.

And Sophie, a teacher at Powell’s Primary School in Cirencester said she was overwhelmed by the support given to her by those that attended the wedding.

She said: “The rainy day was brightened up with the beaming smiles of family and friends. We felt very humble and lucky to have so many of our favourite people in the same place to help us celebrate. We were especially surprised to see many colleagues, parents and children from Powell's School who came to support us.”
