THE start of a month-long celebration of the River Thames began at the weekend when a bottle of water passed through the district.

A bottle of water travel 215 miles along the river, through London and finally out to sea, as part of the The Source to Sea River Relay.

On Saturday, the bottle was filled at source of the River Thames near Kemble and then made its way to Cricklade and finally St John’s Lock at Lechlade.

A number of iconic destinations in London will welcome the bottle, such as Hampton Court Palace, the Tate Modern and the Tower of London, before making its way to its permanent home in Southend.

It will be transported by rowers, sailors, traditional boat owners, paddle boarders and many other groups of people.
