A motorcyclist who fell off his bike a week ago and was helped home by a member of the public is now in a life threatening condition in hospital.

Gloucestershire's Roads Policing Unit are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened on a minor country lane near Snowshill in Moreton-in-Marsh at around 8pm on Friday (July 31).

The 71-year-old rider, from Chipping Campden, was travelling on his Honda motorbike when he was confronted by three sheep in the road, lost control and fell off.

A local man discovered the bike on top of the rider and took him home, while the bike was recovered by the man's recovery company.

The rider then reported the incident to the police and stated that he was going to attend an accident and emergency department of a local hospital with a suspected broken collar bone.

Gloucestershire Police were contacted by the rider’s wife on Wednesday, August 5, to state that he was in hospital in Coventry where it has been confirmed he had suffered four broken ribs.

This had punctured the man's lungs and, combined with an existing health problem, has led to the man's condition being deemed life threatening.

Sergeant David Kania said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this time at what is a very sad turn of events.

"We would like anyone who was in the area a week ago and saw this incident to call us straight away on 101, quoting incident 428 of 31 July."
