SAILORS from five Cotswold Federation clubs met at Bowmoor Sailing Club to compete in their annual regatta.

The clubs represented at the Cotswold Federation Regatta were Bowmoor, Frampton, Cotswold, Whitefriars and South Cerney.

Conditions were glassy calm at 9am and with a scheduled first-race start of 11am, things did not look promising.

However, during the race briefing, a breeze developed from the south and the first race was started on time, in hazy sunshine.

This race got underway at the first attempt, with the 30-boat fleet spread out along a port-biased starting line.

The RS400, sailed by Bowmoor's Dave Lynall and Alastair 'Buz' Keck, took line honours after an hour's racing.

It was followed by the Phantom that was sailed by Russell Smith, also from Bowmoor.

The results, on corrected time, were 1st Phantom - Russell Smith, 2nd RS400 - Dave Lynall, 3rd Firefly - P. Cook of Frampton, fourth RS200 - Paul Dorer of Bowmoor.

After lunch, the second and final race was again started at the first attempt.

It was obvious that Paul Dorer, crewed by Antonia Elsender in the RS200, was going to have a good result in this race because they led the Phantom for several laps.

This proved to be the case because the results, on corrected time, put the RS200 first, the Phantom second and a Supernova, sailed by Jeff Mountal from Cotswold, third.

Final results for the Regatta were as follows.

Overall: 1st Russell Smith - Phantom - Bowmoor SC, 2nd Paul Dorer & Antonia - RS200 - Bowmoor SC, 3rd Dave Lynall & Buz - RS400 - Bowmoor SC, 4th Steve Brown - Finn - Cotswold 1st Senior: Jeff Mountal - Supernova - Cotswold 1st Lady: Jane Robertson - Laser - Bowmoor 1st Youth: Elana Daynes - 420 - South Cerney 1st Junior: Adam Underwood - Topper - Cotswold Bowmoor won the inter-club trophy.
