POLICE and Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire Martin Surl has welcomed a forthcoming national review of deaths in police custody.
Mr Surl said he has told custody officers their “primary responsibility” is to keep detained people safe.
From April 2014 to March 2015, 17 people died in police custody.
None of these deaths were in Gloucestershire.
