PENSIONERS have tipped Gloucestershire as one of the best places in Britain for a long, healthy and safe retirement.

All six counties in South West of England fell in the top 20 of Prudential’s retirement league table.

Devon came out top of the table, with Dorset ranked second, Gloucestershire seventh, Wiltshire at number 12, Somerset at 13 and Cornwall at number 19.

Prudential found that among people retiring in 2015, more than one third (36 per cent) of those in the South West of England expect to be able to afford to leave an inheritance to their families. This was well above the UK average of 29 per cent.
