CIRENCESTER Park was the scene of a gruelling 24 hour running race for charity over the weekend.

Around 500 runners took part in the Cotswold 24 Hour Race, which was a unique twist on ultra-marathon running, normally the reserve of the seriously fit long distance runner.

It was run over an off road nine kilometre mixed course which included forest trails, open parkland and a short section of concrete path.

The aim for participants was to complete as many laps of the course as possible in 24 hours, either in a team or on their own.

The event was organised by Tetbury based 100 Mile Run Ltd. Race Organiser, Rick Morgan, who was pleased with the inaugural race.

“We are absolutely delighted with the way our first ever Cotswold 24 Hour Race went,” he said.

“The runners were very complimentary about the course and all of the facilities.

“Spectators also had a great time listening to our live music and enjoying our children’s entertainers.

“All in all, everybody had a great time despite the terrible weather on Sunday.

“Most importantly participants raised tens of thousands of pounds for their respective charities.”

“We spoke to around 15 runners and between them they have raised approximately £20,000 for their respective charities.

“I would assume the event raised well over £50,000 and that’s probably a very conservative estimate.”
