WORK to improve a notorious stretch of Cirencester road has finally taken place.

London Road in Cirencester has now been resurfaced after calls for action from local county councillor and deputy mayor for Cirencester Nigel Robbins.

Cllr Robbins, who was also recently elected to Cotswold District Council, had been campaigning for a solution since he was elected to Gloucestershire County Council two years ago.

"In the recent local elections the message on the doorstep was clear, local roads aren’t up to scratch and London Road was a good example of this," he said. "At times driving along it was like being on safari.

"I received so many complaints from local residents about this particular stretch of road so it was really frustrating when improvements to the adjacent Burford Road roundabout didn’t include plans to resurface this part of London Road.

"I’m delighted that they have finally listened to my calls and would like to thank local residents that also added their voice to the cause."

Also working with him was fellow county councillor Stuart Tarr who said he was pleased the resurfacing had finally been completed.

"It was long overdue and needed putting right," he said.

Resurfacing took place between July 1-4.
