A NEW clubhouse will not be partying into the early hours of the morning after objections from residents.

Ballihoo Clubhouse and Restaurant, in Lower Mill Estate, Somerford Keynes, had applied for a licence to sell alcohol, perform live music and screen films from 7am to 1am, as well as to provide late night refreshments from 11pm to 1am.

The application met with fierce opposition from residents in the area who worried opening late would disturb their peace.

One resident, Ann Foxon, of Mill Village, wrote to object: “We bought our cottage with a view to get away from London and city life, along with most residents.

“This not only introduces the very things we are trying to away from and relax, but actually makes it worse than at home.”

Another resident, Rhys Grossman, of Clearwater, wrote: “I would object to any of these activities after 11pm, as it would represent undue potential disturbance, particularly on a quiet estate in the countryside.

“I am very concerned by the security implications of having people not residents on the estate.”

Cotswold District Council licensing sub-committee granted a licence on June 29 to allow the clubhouse to open between 9am and 11pm, seven days a week, and between 9am and 1am on New Year’s Eve.
