A TOTAL of six more people have been arrested in connection with an incident in Cirencester in which two police officers were attacked while trying to make an arrest.

The attack happened near the Mad Hatters wine bar in Castle Street between 1am-1.30am on Saturday, June 13 and left one of the officers with a broken tooth and bruising to his hands and face.

20-year-old Cirencester man Jack Ayres later pleaded guilty in court to charges of assault and obstruction and was committed to a young offenders institution for 12 weeks and ordered to pay £530.

Now six more men have been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including obstructing police, assault on a police officer and a public order offence (fear and provocation of violence).

They were released on bail pending further enquiries.

Police are making a further appeal for witnesses, including any who saw people in the crowd which had gathered at the incident, who appeared to be egging on the offender during the arrest.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 33 of 13 June 2015.
