PEOPLE living in Fairford are fed up with the service at their local Boots Pharmacy, and have complained about long waiting times, incorrect medicine being handed out, and often simply being turned away.

Fairford town councillor Chris Roberts said she has been inundated with complaints from the public during the last few months as the service at the only pharmacy in the town slowly gets worse.

"I've been into the chemist four times in the last six days," said Cllr Roberts. "You have to wait at least half an hour and the queue sometimes goes out the door. Quite often, they don't have all the medicine. It's a whole stream of issues and it's become a nightmare. You think you have to put aside an hour just to make a trip."

There are concerns about elderly people in the town, who rely on their local pharmacy to give them their medication quickly and on time. Cllr Roberts said her son, who suffers from diabetes, was told he had to come back another time to pick up his vital insulin.

District councillor for Lechlade, Kempsford and Fairford south Stephen Andrews recently had a meeting with a member of Boots to try and get to the bottom of the problem.

"I have heard complaints about poor general service at Boots Pharmacy and I know Boots are attempting to do something about it," he said. "They have had new staff in recently to try and correct the problem which they recognise.

"I have another meeting with them in the next few weeks to see what they will do to make things better in the long term."

A spokesman for Boots UK said: "Boots UK is confident in the quality of its pharmacy operation and aims to offer patients and customers trusted advice and information for all their needs. We regularly update and review our services to ensure we continue to deliver to the highest possible standard."
