A CELEBRITY electric bicycle polo match will take place this Friday at Longdole Polo club near Birdlip in aid of the Watershed Riding for the Disabled Association in Coates.

The group, based near Cirencester, helps people with disabilities learn to ride and interact with horses and is run by volunteers from around the village.

The polo match starting at 6pm this Friday will see a number of unlikely players get on their bikes, including international rugby stars Phil Vickery, James Simpson Daniel, Rob Fidler and Tom Beim.

These gents will be joined by Mark and Laura Tomlinson, who are stars from International Polo and World and Olympic Dressage respectively.

Also on the team sheet are Jamie Bond, principal dancer with The Birmingham Royal Ballet and Jamie MacDonald, the Guinness World Record Holder for static cycling, who has just run across Canada.

The current England Ladies Polo Captain, Nina Clarkin will be there as will Debbie Harris, the most capped player in UK Polocrosse history, Lucie Archer, Welsh hockey international and Tabba Woodd, a well known local polo player.

The 2015 UK World Cup Polocrosse Team will be show casing their sport and children from the Pony Club will be showing off their Arena Polo skills.

The money raised at the event will be put towards a warm, dry and fully plumbed area for the RDA riders and volunteers.

Visitors can try their hand on one of the electric bicycles, quench their thirst at the bar and fill up on a Gloucester Old Spot Hog Roast and Jolly Nice ice cream.

Tickets will be £10 on the gate with under 14s free. The event will be signed from Birdlip village.
