A MOTHER of three from Andoversford has walked the Cotswold Way with two of her sons and their dog Elsie, raising more than £750 so far.

The family, joined by their dog Elsie, have walked more than 100 miles from Chipping Campden to Bath witnessing spectacular scenery and enjoying brilliant weather over the nine day trek.

Clare’s father is the chairman of the Stroud and Cirencester Parkinson’s UK group and her mother also lives with the condition.

Clare explained that her mother was diagnosed in 1998 but did not truly feel the effects until years later.

She said: “It rocked all of our worlds but in the early days it was easy to forget sometimes and she lived an active life for several years.

“By 2004 the symptoms were there for everyone to see and she started the steady decline which robbed us of the caring, supportive person that she was.”

Clare said that she had a hand in caring for her mother but wanted to do something to help others with the disease.

She said: “It is too late for a cure for my mother but I wanted to do something that was positive and maybe the money that we raise will help other families or help find a cure so other people dont have to go through it.”

During the 42 hours of walking the trio have seen more countryside that they live in and the experience has given Clare the time she needed to answer her children’s questions about Parkinsons and help them understand their grandmother’s condition.

Clare thanked all those who had donated so far and is asking for a few more donations to help her and her sons reach their £1,000 goal.
