CHILDREN lined the pathway to St Mary's Church in Fairford on Saturday, as HRH Prince Charles arrived for a special concert.

Prince Charles, who lives nearby in Highgrove, Tetbury, drove up to the church in his Aston Martin on Saturday afternoon to attend a Music in Country Churches event, of which he is a patron.

He was given a warm welcome as Fairford Brownies lined up to greet him as well as 1st Fairford Scouts and TS Rally Cadets.

Molly Freebury also stepped forward to give Prince Charles a posy, which she was delighted to see him accept.

Fairford resident Chris Roberts said it was certainly a coup for Fairford to have the heir to the throne attend the parish church.

"It certainly was a thrill for the young people to be asked to line the path and greet the prince," she said. "They were very excited when he spoke to them."

The event at St Mary's Church was organised by the Music in Country Churches charity, which holds music concerts to raise funds to maintain and repair churches.
