A MOTHER raised nearly £1,500 for type one diabetes research due to her young son suffering from the condition.

Brenda Turner had all of her waist-length hair cut off at the Hoburne Cotswold on May bank holiday to raise awareness and funds for JDRF (juvenile diabetes research foundation) a charity that supports those who have type one diabetes, and their families too.

Brenda’s 12-year-old-son was diagnosed with the condition at the age of three.

Every year the family holiday park Hoburne Cotswold plays host to more than 55 families of children with type one diabetes. This year Brenda Turner and her family were amongst them for her special event.

To the cheers of the audience, the hair – which had been put into six plaits – was carefully cut off by South Cerney's WetCutz hairdresser Tracy Stevens earlier this month.

It has now been sent to the Little Princess Trust, a charity which make wigs for children who have lost their hair through chemotherapy treatment for cancer.

Brenda originally wanted to raise £500 for the diabetes charity, but was astounded to raise nearly £1,500 – and the total is still climbing.

She said: “I’m tremendously moved that so many people have sponsored me and supported me,” said Brenda.

“My hair will grow back but Josh’s pancreas never will, so this was a small price for me to pay.”

Hairdresser Tracy said she thought it was a brilliant day. The businesswoman has recently just renovated her South Cerney salon, combining hairdressing and beauty treatments.
