TETBURY’S most famous man, the Prince of Wales, has expressed his joy after the birth of his first granddaughter.
Prince Charles said that he and the Duchess of Cornwall were "absolutely delighted” with Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, born on Saturday, May 2 at 8.34am, and weighing 8lbs 3oz.
After 12 hours in St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge gave the gathered crowds a brief glimpse of their new daughter before departing for Kensington Palace.
There was much speculation about the possible name of the royal baby, with the bookies favouring Alice or Charlotte.
Charlotte, the feminine form of Charles, has a long history in the royal family and is Pippa Middleton’s middle name.
Cannons fired salutes in Hyde Park and the Tower of London at 2pm on Monday, April 4.
Her brother, Prince George of Cambridge, was born on July 22, 2013.
