AN ASPIRING teacher from Kemble is hoping to raise more than £1,000 for Gloucestershire Young Carers through a top Cotswold concert this June.

Jess Turner, 20, hosted her first concert last year for charity SING, which helps prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa, after being inspired by a visit to the country in 2013.

The success of the concert combined with raising hundreds of pounds inspired the young nanny to organise another musical evening for a local good cause.

And she hopes this concert, to be held in South Cerney this June, will be bigger and better than the last.

“I’m very excited but also extremely nervous,” said Jess, who will be fundraising specifically for the Cirencester young carers group through the event. “The concert last year I feel went amazing and was one of the best experiences. I had a lot of good feedback from it and people seemed to enjoy the way I did the event.

“This year I hope it will be bigger and better due to the fact I know from last year what to improve on.”

Jess said she chose to raise money for Gloucestershire Young Carers, a charity that provides help and support to children and teenagers who have to care for their parents or siblings, after a visit to the Cirencester club.

“I saw just how much the young people need that space and that club,” she said. “This charity is an amazing one. When I visited the Cirencester group I talked to a few of the young people and that group means the world to them.

“I believe the charity is a deserving cause that provides essential help and support to this vulnerable group.”

Performing in this year’s concert are Coates choir, Kemble choir, Singing for fun, Blue notes and Corinium choir – all local to the Cotswolds.

Jess, who lives at home with her mum and sister in Kemble, said she would like to make more than £1,000 through the event. Between organising the concert she works as a nanny and hopes to become a teacher in the future.

Marketing manager at Gloucestershire Young Carers Jane Dyer said the charity was very grateful to Jess for all her fundraising efforts.

“Jess is investing such a lot of time and hard work into putting together what we know will be a great concert,” said Jane. “Music events are always inspirational events and we are sure that this will not only raise vital funds but also awareness of the work we are doing in the Cirencester area.”

The concert will be held on Friday, June 5 at South Cerney All Hallows' church starting at 7pm.
