The fault was identified at around midnight and engineers have been working overnight to check all of the pumping equipment that pushes water around the network
Just before 7am engineers found the cause to be a large burst pipe in woodland near Purton and are working to get the pipe repaired and the reservoir refilled.
In the meantime they are organising bottled water to go out to affected customers and tankers full of water to supply schools and vulnerable customers.
So far 200 customers have called to report the fault.
