AN OPERATION to catch drivers in the north Cotswolds breaking the law has seen two vehicles taken off the road and a number of drivers given fines.

On Wednesday and Thursday of last week the North Cotswolds Neighbourhood Policing team in partnership with Tri Force traffic officers, police dogs, Revenue and Customs and Trading Standards focused on road safety and vehicle related crim.

The operation took place across the north Cotswolds with officers working in and around Moreton in Marsh and Bourton on the Water.

Various vehicles of all categories, including cars, vans and HGVs were checked throughout the two day operation with fines issued to “a significant number” according to police, and two vehicles seized which had been driven illegally.

In addition, fixed penalty notices were issued for a range of offences including tyre and brake defects which, if not detected, could have proved very dangerous for the driverother road users and pedestrians.

Cotswold Police Sergeant, Richard Payne said: “The operation has been very successful and well received within the community.

“The successful outcome has been the result of communities in both areas raising their concerns and a multi-agency approach was put in place to resolve these issues.

“We are planning further operations throughout the year which will continue to focus on community concerns throughout the North Cotswolds.”
