POLICE are hunting a driver who left their car on the A417 after a crash.

At around 7.30am on the Cirencester-bound road, roughly a mile south of the Cowley roundabout a car was found smashed and abandoned.

Gloucestershire Road Police tweeted that one of their dog unit, PD Ted tracked the driver for the better part of an hour across fields with the driver escaping pursuit.

A police spokesman wrote: "Despite our best efforts & PD Ted & his handler tracking for several miles we were unable to locate the driver. Car recovered."

Police believe the driver to be a white male, in light-coloured clothing, possibly balding and middle-aged.

If you saw the driver, contact police on 101 and quote incident 85 of April 26.
