AMONGST the hubbub of the general and district elections there is another set of elections that are no less important.

In the Cotswold District, 17 towns and parishes are up for re-election on May 7.

Of these, there are 126 candidates vying for 102 seats.

The councils are Andoversford, Bagendon, Bourton-on-the-Water Village Ward, Chedworth, Chipping Campden, Down Ampney, Kempsford, Longborough, Preston, Sherborne, Somerford Keynes and Stow-on-the-Wold.

There are five wards up for election in Cirencester: Abbey Ward, New Mills Ward, St Michael’s Ward, Stratton Ward and The Beeches Ward.

If there are not enough candidates for the number of seats an election does not take place.

85 towns and parishes did not have enough candidates to warrant an election.

Empty positions will be co-opted from the community.
