A PUBLIC meeting on the future of Stow Surgery will be held in the town centre tomorrow at 12 noon.

Since the plans for a new surgery in Stow-on-the-Wold were thrown out by Cotswold District Council on April 8, angry residents have called a public meeting for people to air their views.

The meeting will take place at 12pm tomorrow (Saturday) at Stocks Green, the Square, Stow (the village green outside Old Stocks Hotel).

Doctors have warned that Stow could be left without a surgery after the planning application for the proposed new premises on the Gypsy Field were refused last week.

CDC argued the harm that would be done to the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty outweighed the need for healthcare facilities for Stow and the surrounding villages.

Opponents of the scheme argued there were other sites and the AONB should be protected. Doctors say there are none suitable. They have campaigned for a new centre for 14 years.

Dr Tim Healy has made a public statement on the Friends of Stow Surgery website. He said: "The doctors and staff at the surgery are bitterly diappointed that the planning application was rejected."
