ROADWORKS in Cirencester that were due to finish in November 2014 have finally come to an end - five months later.

Construction team Brittania came under fire at the beginning of this year after Gloucestershire county councillor Nigel Robbins pointed out that work improving the busy Burford and London road junction was still going on, despite the original finishing date being months earlier.

A spokesman for Brittania, speaking to the Standard earlier this year, said the project was due to be finished by the end of February. Contracts manager Robert Rees said workers had found a lot of manholes and obstructions underground which had led to some setbacks.

However, despite his promise to be finished by February, work was still ongoing in March, and residents were getting more and more frustrated.

The company was improving the tricky Y-shaped junction by turning it into a T-junction with traffic lights and crossings for pedestrians and cyclists. A dedicated left turn lane has also been installed at the Grove Lane roundabout.

Work started on the scheme in May 2014 and was due to finish in November. It actually finished at the beginning of April 2015.

Brittania were not able to comment when approached by the Standard this week.
