RUMOURS concerning the diminishing number of beds at Cirencester Hospital have been quashed by senior staff.
An anonymous letter to the Standard spoke of how it appeared there were not that many beds available at the hospital. The writer said: "Soon it seems we will have no hospital at all".
Staff at the hospital on Tetbury Road have said that when a hospital bed is needed, it is immediately made available.
Deputy chief executive at Gloucestershire Care Services NHS Trust Glyn Howells said: "Cirencester Hospital offers nursing and therapy care to approximately 49 patients at any one time who may require rehabilitation or management of long-term or complex health issues.
"The team at the hospital work closely with their colleagues in the Acute Hospital and community health and social care teams so that access to a hospital bed happens when necessary as part of a pathway of care.
"We are working closely with our colleagues in Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group and local GPs to ensure the hospital remains a vibrant and important part of health care for the local community reflecting the changing needs of the population that it serves."
