PEOPLE all over Cirencester have been talking about raising money for volunteer Tony Curry, after thieves stole his trailer on Easter Saturday.

The Standard has set up a Go Fund Me account, so people can safely donate into a special account (made solely for Mr Curry's fund) after his £1,200 trailer was taken almost from under his nose.

The 70-year-old grandfather has been voluntarily mowing the grass on the town's roundabouts for three years. He receives no money or expenses towards his work, despite going out once a week in the summer.

On Easter Saturday, Mr Curry was cutting the grass on one side of the roundabout next to Cirencester fire station and had left the trailer he used to transport the lawnmower on the other side, out of sight.

A thief pulled up in front of the trailer, attached it to the back of their vehicle, and drove away.

“I just couldn’t believe it," said Mr Curry. "I could see the skid marks on the grass. I just stood there and thought, is this really happening?”

The community have aired their views on Facebook wondering whether it would be possible to set up a fundraising page for Mr Curry, to buy him a new trailer.

Sam Chivers wrote on the social media account: "I would be willing to give."

Lucy Potter added: "Someone should set up a giving page to raise some money for a new trailer for him."

This week Mr Curry said he was so overwhelmed to hear of all the people wanting to donate money so he could buy a new trailer - but he felt he could not ask for any help.

So the Standard has set up this account so everyone who wants to donate, can. And maybe, as a community, we can raise enough for a kind-hearted man who really takes pride in making Cirencester look nice.

When the target of £1,200 is met, we will arrange to present the money to Mr Curry.

The trailer was stolen between 5.30pm and 6pm on Saturday, while Mr Curry was mowing the Bristol Road roundabout.

Witnesses are urged to call 101 quoting incident 344 of April 4.
