RAPPERS De La Soul have been announced for this year's WOMAD as the first wave of artists was revealed for the festival.

The New York trio will peform at the 33rd World of Music and Dance (WOMAD) festival at Charlton Park near Malmesbury, which takes place from July 23 to 26.

De La Soul, best known for their hit Me, Myself & I, will be leading the party on the Friday night.

Saharan freedom fighters turned rock and rollers Tinariwen will also play, and joining these big hitters are theatrical folk music act Bellowhead, with other performers from as far afield as Syria, Honduras and Zimbabwe.

Other notable performers include 76-year-old Brazilian history teacher turned singer Dona Onete, and  Molotov Jukebox, a London-based group fronted by Game of Thrones star Natalia Tena.

WOMAD also promises a feast of culture including various world foods, early morning yoga classes and dance and drumming workshops galore.

The traditional curtain raising ceremony will feature schoolchildren from Malmesbury, with accompaniment from jazz act Tomorrow’s Warriors.

World of Art will see artists use the entire festival site as a canvas on which to create specially commissioned pieces, while at World of Words there will be debate on current affairs.
