CIRENCESTER women are being urged to get the New Year off to a great start by signing up to Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life 2015.

Every month, nearly 2,600 people are diagnosed with cancer in the South West.

Cancer Research UK is calling on women in Cirencester to fight back against the disease by entering Race for Life in July this year.

As well as raising funds for life-saving research, taking part in Race for Life is an easy way to be more active and is perfect for those setting themselves a fitness goal as their New Year’s resolution.

Cancer Research UK’s Cirencester event manager Michelle Leighton said: “We’re urging women of all ages, shapes and sizes to take on Race for Life in their region and sign up now.

“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.

“If you’re looking for an opportunity to get active in 2015 and shake off those January blues, there’s no better time to take on Race for Life."

This year's event, featuring a five kilometre, 10 kilometre, and Pretty Muddy race, will be at Cirencester Park on Sunday, July 19.

Last year 1,770 women took part in Race for Life in Cirencester and raised more than £102,000.

The Standard also put together a team, and raised £500 for the charity before completing the race together.

This year organisers want 1,800 women to race while raising £105,000.
