AN IGLOO is not the type of structure you would expect to see in Malmesbury but this year K&S Childcare built one as a festive treat for local children.

Steve Paginton, one of the founders of the childcare group, said that he spent around 20 hours sticking the bottles together with a hot glue gun and the help of several volunteers.

He said: “One of the girls that works for us saw one on the internet and it was made using around 400 milk bottles.

“We started collecting bottles but it didn’t look big enough so we put 70 of them around the bottom. People brought them in and there was a plastic company in Stroud that donated 200 bottles to us.”

A massive 1,080 bottles were used in total for the construction with a plastic frame inside to keep it structurally sound while it was being constructed.

Steve said that although the structure wouldn’t last a year the group would consider a new project for next year and take the opportunity from both builds to teach the children about the importance of recycling.
