A MUM fears she won’t be able to cook Christmas dinner for her family at her Cirencester home because her housing association has not yet repaired her kitchen.

But the association, Bromford, said the reason for the delay is because the mum of three, Sereta Hunt, has refused to let tradesmen into her home.

Mrs Hunt has accused Bromford of dragging its heels over installing a working cooker, repairing the washing-machine and fixing tiles.

She said her kitchen has been left in chaos, and as a result she and her husband have had to move furniture and appliances into their living-room, meaning there is no space for them to put up a Christmas tree, which has upset her children, who are aged 14, 11 and ten.

Mrs Hunt, 37, said she feels that Bromford is blaming the situation on her.

“Bromford have said I broke my own cooker – why would I want to break my own cooker when I have three kids?” she said.

“It’s soon going to be Christmas and I don’t know who I am supposed to turn to.”

Head of neighbourhood at Bromford, Suzanne Shead, said work on the kitchen began on November 29, and would normally have been completed in ten days but progress had been hampered by Mrs Hunt refusing access to the company’s tradesmen.

Mrs Shead said Mrs Hunt had also instructed tradesmen to leave her home when they were in the middle of a job.

“Mrs Hunt called us on December 5, when she believed our tradesmen had broken her cooker,” said Mrs Shead.

“We made an appointment to repair it the following day, Saturday, but Mrs Hunt refused access to the tradesman when he arrived to carry out the work.

“We have now instructed a cooker repair specialist to attend and we hope Mrs Hunt will allow him access.

“In the meantime, we have supplied Mrs Hunt with a temporary hob and cooker to supplement her own microwave to ensure she can continue to cook for her family.”

However, Mrs Hunt claims she has not tried to obstruct the workmen from doing their job.

She added: “If they think I’m one of those people just trying to get a new cooker, I’m not.

“As well as the broken cooker, there are currently no tiles on the kitchen floor and the washing-machine has jammed shut, with the children’s school uniform stuck inside.”
