IT'S A BOY'S world at Kempsford Primary School, as one 'unusual' class has not one single girl in.

Kempsford C of E Primary School, based near Fairford and Lechlade, currently teaches 86 students, yet staff were baffled when they discovered this year's new reception class consisted of 13 boys - but no girls.

"It is very unusual," said reception class teacher Claire McLaughlin, who shares her position with Meg Heavisides. "I've been teaching for 15 years and I have had gender heavy classes but never one gender before."

Even one of the teaching assistants at the school. who has been there for 33 years, has never witnessed a class made up of just boys or just girls.

However, Claire said it is not a problem for the school, or the boys, and that it actually allows both teachers to tweak their lesson plans to suit the class.

"We have thought carefully about tailoring topics on the boys, to inspire them," she said. "We did pirates this term and will be doing mini-beasts and super heroes too.

"It's quite interesting; you would think they are much louder but they're just like any other class. There are some who are boisterous but some who are quiet. We still have a real mix of personalities."
