Widden OB Colts 26 Cirencester Colts 14
INJURIES and illness took their toll as a much-changed Cirencester Colts side went down 26-14 at Widden RFC.
But the visitors played some enterprising rugby and will see this game as a missed opportunity.
Ciren started brightly until a dropped ball deep in Widden's 22 was hacked the entire length of the field for a converted score.
Moments later a missed tackle gifted a second try to the hosts.
Cirencester's woe peaked when, from the restart, Orlando Janes broke his leg.
The visitors continued to produce some decent attacking rugby although wayward passing made Widden's job easier.
Cirencester were not to be denied and rallied with two tries, one after a series of forward-based drives and the other as a result of a slick handling move (14-14).
Both sides struggled to dominate any territory or possession in the second half.
On a rare attack Widden kept the ball within their forwards and crashed over for an undeserved lead.
They extended the advantage when the entire Ciren side appeared distracted by other events as a tap-and-go penalty saw a Widden player stroll beneath the posts untouched to take the final score to 26-14.
