THE first referendum on a Neighbourhood Plan in Wiltshire is set to go ahead today offering people across Malmesbury, St Paul Without and Brokenborough the chance to choose where they want development.

Residents of these areas will be asked whether or not they wish to accept the draft plan, which aims to shape development in and around Malmesbury.

Without a plan decisions will be made at a county level, giving greater control to people outside of the town.

The plan itself is the result of the hard work of the town's neighbourhood steering group who are urging people to get out on the day and exercise their democratic right one way or the other.

A total of 51% of the vote is needed either way in the yes or no referendum to secure a win for either side, either adopting or scrapping the local plan.

Six polling stations will be set up and operate from 7am to 10pm to allow as many people as possible to cast their votes.
