THE Cotswolds MP donned his apron and dished up 'free chips' for all dogs at an annual House of Commons reception.

Geoffrey Clifton-Brown showed his support at the launch of the Dogs Trust Chip My Dog website by offering free microchips to queues of dogs.

Charity, Dogs Trust's new website has been dubbed a 'one-stop-shop' for all microchipping queries.

Pet owners can now find details of where to get a free microchip service for their dog, advice on how to update microchip details and advice on what to do if they lose their dog or find a lost pet.

MPs turned out to support the event and Mr Clifton-Brown said he was delighted to help the charity launch its website.

"I am supportive of the charity’s microchipping campaign and greatly welcomed the government’s announcement on the introduction of compulsory microchipping for all dogs in England from April 2016," he said.

"Compulsory microchipping will make it easier to reunite lost dogs with their owners and cut unnecessary kennelling costs for local authorities."

Dogs Trust CEO Clarissa Baldwin OBE said microchipping had been at the heart of the charities activities for a long time.

"We’re now looking forward to an exciting few years during which it will become compulsory in England, Wales and, we hope, Scotland."
