STOW-ON-THE-WOLD has welcomed thousands of travellers to a field near Maugersbury Road today to celebrate the 538-year-old biannual horse fair.

Stow Horse Fair is held twice a year, in May and October, and sees members of the gypsy community attend from all over the UK to sell and trade their horses and goods.

The event has taken place since a charter for the event was granted to the townspeople by Edward IV.

Although the event attracts hundreds of tourists each year, many shops still close down for the day, including this year vintage boutique store As Long As It Sparkles and boutique store Law and Co. Emporium.

There was some uncertainty as to whether the fair would be able to continue setting up on the land near Maugersbury Road, where it has been held for more than 500 years, due to plans to build a new medical centre on the site.

But the event has taken place today in Stow and has seen thousands of travellers and tourists move into the Cotswold town for the day.

More information and pictures to come.
