A NEW supermarket has officially opened its doors in Cirencester, welcoming in thousands of eager local customers during its first week.

Aldi, based on Cricklade Road in the town, is finally open for business and staff marked the day by celebrating with a variety of special buys.

Cutting the ribbon last Thursday was town mayor Joe Harris who said he was delighted to be part of the store's launch day.

"It was a great turnout and a really nice supermarket," he said.

As part of the shop's commitment to the local community, Aldi has agreed to a big sponsorship deal with Kingshill FC under 13’s team and is providing the players with football kits as well as a much needed new football goal.

The company has also made a donation to Siddington Parish Council which will go towards the purchase of a community defibrillator for the village, based very close to the new Aldi store.

Aldi store Manager Carl Langston said the launch day had gone fantastically.

"We are so pleased to see so many customers enjoying the new store," he said. "Aldi is proud to support the local community and is thrilled to sponsor the Kingshill FC under 13’s team. We hope their new equipment will ensure the children can continue to enjoy playing football for many years to come."

Secretary for Kingshill FC Trudi Pannell said: "The club works with over 70 children, and this new sponsorship deal will be a great help in supporting our Under 13’s team. Cirencester is really excited about the new store."
