PEOPLE across Wiltshire are to be asked for their views on parking in what will be the county's biggest ever review on the subject.

Wiltshire Council will release background information on every town including details such as population and housing growth.

Residents will then be asked to complete a questionnaire, which Wiltshire Council will send out on November 10. It will list every car-park under the council’s control with an option for its future, including charges.

People can either agree with the suggestion or alternatively give their own view on how much, if anything, should be charged and if it should be a long-stay or short-stay car-park.

When the unitary council was formed in 2009 it inherited a number of car-parks from the district authorities, all with different price scales.

In 2011 the authority brought in banding for car-parks which meant that towns of similar sizes and with similar facilities charged the same amount. At the time the council promised to review this within four years.

The parking review means each town will be looked at individually so the council are keen to hear the views of people who live, work and shop in the areas to be involved.

The questionnaires and charging summaries will be available online at the council’s website and in libraries and community hubs.

Consultation will close on January 16.
